Pat Mahon will lead a workshop on November 8, 9:00 am- noon on Haiku as prayer. Haiku is a form of poetry with Japanese origins. Haiku has become a popular art form worldwide. Haiku enables us to focus on our feelings about the present moment. It helps “describe” the indescribable. This workshop will focus on using haiku as prayer.
Experiencing a present event or reading a psalm, reflecting on the personal meaning of the event or psalm, and then putting our response in haiku can center us in the meaning of our experience. Thus, by combining the practice of lectio divina (sacred reading) with writing haiku, participants will develop deeper awareness. Participants will practice reading, reflecting and then writing haiku on current experiences and the psalms. Please sign up in the hallway so that he’ll know how many to expect and contact Pat with any questions.
